Few Scriptures that reveal Lord Chaitanya’s Identity as Lord Krishna

The identity of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as the Supreme Lord Krishna is confirmed in several Vedic scriptures and by great spiritual masters of our sampradaya. Although Lord Chaitanya never openly declared Himself an incarnation, His divine characteristics align with scriptural predictions.

  • SRIMAD BHAGWATAM (11.5.32)

"In the age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the holy name of Krishna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krishna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons, and confidential companions."

  • GARUD PURAN

"In the early part of Kali-yuga, I will manifest in my complete spiritual form in Mayapura, Navadvipa, as the son of Shachi."

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in Mayapura, a sacred region within Navadvipa, West Bengal, in the year 1486—approximately 4,500 years after the onset of Kali-yuga. The Garuda Purana also states: "In the early part of Kali-yuga, the Supreme Lord with a golden complexion will become the husband of Lakshmi. Later, He will accept sannyasa and reside near Lord Jagannatha."

  • PADMA PURAN

"Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born in Mayapura, situated on the banks of the sacred Ganges. A similar prophecy regarding His divine appearance is also found in the Brahma Purana.

The Supreme Lord declares:

"In the first part of Kali-yuga, I will appear in a golden form on the earth, taking birth as the son of Shachi in a beautiful place on the banks of the Bhagirathi (Ganges)."

  • NARAD PURAN

The Supreme Personality of Godhead proclaims:

"O divine beings, descend to the earth as devotees! In Kali-yuga, I will appear as the son of Shachi to inaugurate the great movement of sankirtana (congregational chanting of the holy names)."

"O Brahmana, in Kali-yuga, I will descend in a concealed form—as a devotee of the Lord—to protect and deliver all living beings."

Additionally, He instructs the demigods:

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, embodying the mood of a devotee, spread the yuga-dharma—Harinama Sankirtana—leading the world toward divine love and devotion..

  • BHAVISHYA PURAN

The Supreme Lord declares:

"O austere sage, in the age of Kali, everyone will witness My transcendental form as a sannyasi. I will manifest symptoms of divine ecstasy—shedding tears of bliss and experiencing horripilation (hairs standing on end)."

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was always immersed in the ocean of transcendental bliss, chanting Krishna’s holy names and dancing in sankirtana. His deep feelings of separation from the Lord caused Him to exhibit intense ecstatic symptoms of pure love—unceasing tears, a choked voice, and bodily hairs standing on end in divine rapture.
